There are many ancient stories behind the discovery of the cave.One of them is ,Once a Saint gave a bag full of coals to Shepherd Buta Malik.And when Buta Malik reached his home and he open the bag,he saw that it is full of gold coins.He ran back to the saint and he saw the saint is disappeared. He saw at that place there is a cave with a gaint iced lingam resemble Lord Shiva. From then only ,this place became the holy place for the hindu pilgrimage. Amarnath is counted as one of the holy places in hindu religion.
